Padjelanta Music Festival
Video and music from Elevated Pitch, consisting of Tobias Wessman and Gustav Samrelius.
A secret music festival took place in Padjelanta nature reserve late this summer, mainly focused on electronic music. To get to the site both musicians and audience needed to walk for half a day. One of the musicians, our own Gustav Samrelius, share some experiences:
I consider music to be a carrier of thought a compass of direction, guiding you, a wilderness to get lost in, but still close to get back, just like the Saiva festival in Padjelanta, a place for collective creativity, a place truly celebrating the beautiful nonsense of our excistence, One morning I was dancing on a boulder and suddenly I noticed that the fog had rolled in and formed a smoke ring around us, was an amazing feeling, felt like it was trying to shelter us keep us in this state of mind for a while, If we work with the right ambitions anything is possible, we can create beutiful nothingness and be receptive as we create.

Music Mind

This mix is named after a song from the album on the picture above. "Music Mind" by Solaris is a perfect blend of funk and disco and i´ve been after this record for a couple of years until i stumbled upon it earlier this year. Rest of the mix is in the same style with a few exceptions. Hope you´ll enjoy it!

Planetary Boundaries

The Earth System has been defined to have nine planetary boundaries which it have stayed within for the last 10 000 years. During this period the Earth System has remained stable and created a suitable habitat for human development. Today our modern societies have pushed the system passed three of the boundaries and moving dangerously close to some of the others. To move beyond the planetary boundaries is to enter a world of uncertainty where we do not longer recognize or can control the processes of the Earth System. Then we stand helpless as our planet may transform into something that no longer favor human development.
So the question is, how can our society transform so that it will remain within the safe haven of the nine planetary boundaries?
"Earth oh Earth where we all living
Earth oh Earth where we all belong
Or Can Nature be wrong?"
-Excerpt from "Ship" by Mick Softley, 1970
To read the full scientific paper and more information on planetary boundaries press here or listen to Johan Rockström’s (the main author of the article) presentation here
This mix is inspired by the concepts of planetary boundaries and adaptive cycles.

John Cage

"There is no such thing as an empty space or an empty time. There is always something to see, something to hear. In fact, try as we may to make silence, we cannot. For certain engineering purposes, it is desirable to have a silent situation as possible. Such a room is called an anechoic chamber, its six walls made of special material, a room without echoes. I entered one at Harvard University several years ago and heard two sounds, one high and one low. When I described them to the engineer in charge, he informed me that the high one was my nervous system in operation, the low one my blood in circulation. Until I die there will be sounds. And they will contiune following my death. One need not to fear about the future of music."
Quote from the book Silence, Lectures and Writings - John Cage

Love Affair

This is not for everybody. Silky smoochers for late night lovers. The first in another planned series of "love affairs". This is not really a mix, it´s more a compilation of songs chosen by their theme and mood. I´ve been rediscovering and enjoying music like this lately and i hope you feel it to.

Tomas Tranströmer

The poet Tomas Tranströmer is one of my favourite Swedish poets and have been for quite some time. I believe his approach, and his way of working with images and metaphors through his text is amazing and often gives great depth to commonplace situations. An ability to fit the existential questions alongside daily life. Poetry of all kinds gives me relief and I keep coming back for that consolation, and especially to Tomas Tranströmer.
This is a recording done in 1988, taken from the cassette Svenska Poeter 2, a couple of years before Tomas Tranströmer was stricken by a stroke that made him partly paralyzed. He is not able to do readings any more.
This reading is in Swedish so for all of you non speaking I give my apologises.
